ABOUT US
We’re about dreams. For more than 25 years, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) has been dedicated to nurturing and supporting young artists as they pursue their dreams.
Talent. Aspiration. Dedication. Hard work. Luck. It takes all of this – and more – to make it as an artist. The “and more” is where NFAA’s youngARTS program comes in. We provide support, education, and recognition to high school senior–aged artists at a critical time in their emerging careers.
We contact every high school in the country in our search for the year’s most talented artists. The artists come from a range of disciplines in the performing, visual, and literary arts: classical music, jazz and popular music, voice, dance, film and video, photography, theater, visual arts, and writing. We are the only organization that encourages and recognizes artistic excellence in all art forms.
youngARTS evaluates students against a standard of excellence for their discipline and age. Approximately 10 percent of the 6-8,000 annual applicants receive scholarships and awards. Of those, up to 150 students are chosen to participate in youngARTS Week, during which they are brought to Miami for an all-expenses-paid week of master classes, showcase performances, exhibitions, interdisciplinary activities, enrichment programs, interviews, and the final auditions.
youngARTS winners share $500,000 in cash awards – an additional $3 million in scholarship opportunities is available to all youngARTS applicants.
NFAA is the exclusive nominating agency for the Presidential Scholars in the Arts. NFAA also supports young artists through its programs for alumni, including internships, grants, awards, and career development opportunities.
NFAA has helped many young artists realize their dreams. We are proud of our role as a springboard to vibrant artistic careers. Our alumni have gone on to distinguished careers in their fields, becoming principal dancers in major companies, members of prominent orchestras, recognizable faces on stage and screen, accomplished authors, and respected visual artists.
We believe in the arts. We believe in our youth. We believe in dreams. We know that our investment in our young artists is an investment in a future rich in culture. |
