MUSIC – VIOLONCELLO REQUIREMENTS
Participants are required to submit a videotaped audition which must include the following - in this order:









1. One movement of a Bach suite.

2. The first movement of a Beethoven sonata.

3. The first movement of a major concerto by a composer such as Bloch, Boccherini, Dvorak, Haydn, Lalo, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, or Schumann.

4. A 20th century composition published during or after 1950 (preferably works written after 1975).

Participant's audition should display a full range of technical skill and interpretive
ability. It is preferable to present works by a variety of composers. All repeats must be omitted. Lengthy passages for accompaniment only must be omitted.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTENT OF MUSIC DVD or VHS AUDITION:

1. Record your audition in the order listed above using a NEW VHS cassette or DVD.

Do not submit a mini-DV, mini cassette or VCD.
2. Announce your audition in the following manner: "My ARTS ID# is 08009999/201." (You will receive your ARTS ID# once you have completed the registration process). Also include the names and composers on the content cards inside the DVD/VHS case/box.

Do not state your name or place it in or on the video/DVD box/case. Do not make any other comments.
3. Use a fixed point of view for your camera with the student auditioning being the main focus. Shoot straight on, leaving the camera in one location.

Do not pan, move the camera, or follow the musician. Camera may be no closer than waist up.
4. Use a good quality microphone and check for good balance and blend. Edits between movements and pieces are allowed.

Do not edit within the song. No sound enhancements are allowed.

5. Submit your audition materials according to the official mailing requirements.

Do not submit pre-recorded live performances, such as recitals or concerts.
Recommendations
  • There should be short pauses between selections.
  • Test your recordings before releasing your musicians and submitting for judging.
  • Test your DVD or VHS tape on a standard VHS or DVD player.
  • VHS and DVD tapes that cannot be displayed will be disqualified.
NOTE: Videotapes/DVD's will not be returned. Participants should make and keep copies of all materials submitted. NFAA is not responsible for submissions lost or damaged in the mail.
